« An Outpost of Progress » selected to the Berlinale
Portuguese director HUGO VIEIRA DA SILVA returns to Berlin International Film Festival, one of the most important festivals in Europe with AN OUTPOST OF PROGRESS, a production by PAULO BRANCO that will be screened at the FORUM.
AN OUTPOST OF PROGRESS, the third feature film by HUGO VIEIRA DA SILVA, is selected to the FORUM, the most innovative and experimental section of the festival. This is the second time HUGO VIEIRA DA SILVA presents a film at FORUM. Previously, in 2011, he presented his feature SWANS in this same section.
The film is an adaptation of the homonymous work by JOSEPH CONRAD, one of the greatest writers of the 19th century. Shot in Angola, AN OUTPOST OF PROGRESS stars the Portuguese actors NUNO LOPES and IVO ALEXANDRE, and the Angolan actor DAVID CARACOL. The action takes place at the end of the 19th century, when two inexperienced Portuguese colonizers, disembark in a remote part of the Congo River in order to coordinate an ivory trading post. As time goes by, they become increasingly demoralized by their inability to profit from the ivory trade. A mutual feeling of distrust and misunderstandings with the locals isolate them at the heart of the tropical jungle. Faced with each other, they begin a journey towards the abyss.
The 66th edition of BERLINALE will run from 11th to 21st February.
