DAVID CARACOL wins Best Actor Award at Las Palmas

Angolan actor DAVID CARACOL, one of the stars of AN OUTPOST OF PROGRESS, won last Sunday the Best Actor Award at Las Palmas Internacional Film Festival.

The jury considered AN OUTPOST OF PROGRESS, the third feature film by Portuguese director HUGO VIEIRA DA SILVA, “a very unique film”. Regarding the award given to DAVID CARACOL, the members of the jury highlighted the “complex interpretation of a secondary role manages to keep the whole film afloat while taking us to the reality and geographical context in which the plot develops, avoiding predictable conventions”. Thanks to his interpretation, they also stress that “the universe of the film overcomes any reductionist Manicheism.”

The film, which had its world premiere at Berlinale - Berlin International Film Festival, is an adaptation of the homonymous work by JOSEPH CONRAD. Shot in Angola, AN OUTPOST OF PROGRESS stars the Portuguese actors NUNO LOPES and IVO ALEXANDRE, as well as the Angolan actor David Caracol.

AN OUTPOST OF PROGRESS will be released in Portuguese cinemas this Thursday, 17th March.
